How do I contribute to a crowdfunding campaign?
Find the campaign you’re interested in by using a direct link or by searching for the campaign using the "Explore" button on the PubLaunch header.
On the campaign page, click on “Fund Me.” You’ll be prompted to enter your pledge amount, choose your reward, and provide your credit card information. That’s it!
Is my credit card information secure?
Of course! In fact, PubLaunch never sees this information. Your credit card information is sent directly to Stripe, our payment processor, who must comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS). Stripe has been certified as a PCI Level 1 Service Provider, the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry.
I’ve contributed to a campaign. Why don’t I see a charge on my credit card?
You won’t be charged for your contribution until a campaign has reached its minimum goal. This helps avoid refunds, as well as a commitment by the campaign owner to fulfill rewards before they have sufficient funds to see their book project to completion.
Note that a campaign’s minimum goal is not necessarily the same goal you see on the campaign page. For a more thorough explanation, see "What’s the difference between minimum and maximum crowdfunding goals?" under the FAQ section “Crowdfunding Writers.”
When will I receive my reward for contributing to a campaign?
If a campaign meets its minimum goal (and you’ve therefore been charged for your contribution), the campaign owner is now responsible for fulfilling your reward. Please be patient, as your contribution is likely going towards book production, and turning a manuscript into a book can take a few months. We do encourage PubLaunch writers to keep you posted by email on their progress and delivery dates.
Am I taxed on my contribution?
No, contributors are not taxed on their contributions to a crowdfunding campaign, regardless of your country of residence.
Can I receive a charitable tax credit for my contribution?
PubLaunch does not provide donation receipts as part of our service. If you are part of a not-for-profit organization that is raising funds for a project on our site, and you believe you’re eligible for a donation receipt, contact the campaign owner using the contact link on the campaign page.
Will my personal information remain anonymous if I contribute to a campaign?
Your information will not be available to the public; however, the campaign owner (and PubLaunch) will have access to the following to fulfill your reward: your name, your email address, and your shipping address (if applicable).
